Green Bean Casserole Pizza

The classic Thanksgiving side dish gets pizza-fied.

Green Bean Casserole Pizza

Happy Thanksgiving! What if the classic holiday side dish, green bean casserole, was a pizza? Let’s find out!

For the base, I made a bechamel sauce with mushrooms, onions, and some typical soup spices. Cheese is not something usually found in green bean casserole, but I know it can go well with green beans. I went with a blend of mozzarella and sharp white cheddar.

The big question with this pizza was which type of green beans to use. Fresh, frozen, or canned? I went back and forth on it but decided on canned, but I didn't want it to be too wet. So, I drained them really well and put them on only for the last couple of minutes of baking just to warm through. Lastly, french fried onions were sprinkled on top.

This was a good pizza! Canned green beans was a good move, it had the right texture for a casserole. The bechamel sauce and cheese made for a very rich pizza. Highly recommend some cranberry sauce on the side to offset it.
